nfjksdbgjkbsdagklsd This keeled me ded, I tell you. More rambled at the bottom. I’m sorry this part took so long! T_T I’m a procrastinator, and I really should’ve been working on this the second I heard it was my turn. m(_ _)m And I’m sorry its so short.

Sorry, [livejournal.com profile] hushpuppie_ (or is [livejournal.com profile] lethe_seraph next?), but have fun with the next part! Hopefully I haven’t raped the story too hard.

The land was at rest; the pharaoh was not so lucky. From his balcony Atemu could just barely hear the signs of life below. Inane chatter of the guards was reduced to background noise as he leaned against the stone barrier, scanning the town below. First he had lost control of a slave, and now it seemed his most prized priest thought himself above command; indeed, how long would it be before he lost control of his land as well?

His land. His to rule and command, to live and breathe on, to die for...

Smoke loomed on the horizon, just barely in sight from where Atemu stood – a sign of coming doom, no doubt. His father had abated the tragedy of war once under the grace of the Gods, and it had returned again. The gods had done nothing to save Egypt; the Pharaoh had. That power was now in Atemu’s hands, and it was his to command, Gods be damned. He had the Millennium Items – he had no use for Gods, and he did not miss them.

What he lacked was unity in his ranks; his priests were ever loyal to him, but the signs of dissention were evident in Seth. The passion in his eyes... Different. His gaze as he regarded Atemu... Different. Seth was up to something; one did not know a man for as long as Atemu had known Seth without noticing such changes. As the most trusted of the Pharaoh’s priests, Seth had always been the most dangerous, and Atemu would not take him lightly.

And it all began with one insubordinate slave.

Atemu looked over his shoulder to the guard standing watch. “You.”

The guard bowed his head. “Yes, my Pharaoh?”

Atemu looked back over the city. It was his, yes, and he would not fail, not with power on his side. “I want you to keep an eye on Seth. Report any suspicious activity without hesitation. Start immediately.”

“Done.” The guard was gone in a heartbeat, footfall light against stone. Atemu frowned, almost worried about the news the guard would report... For there were no Gods to save Seth if his suspicions proved true.

RAMBLE!
I feel like such an ass; [livejournal.com profile] snarkymonkey set it up for so something romantic or deep for Kaiba & Jou, and I ran for the “bad guy.” Well, every villain needs his moment, so I thought I’d give it my shot. Besides, it looks like we’re reaching some climax, and I wasn’t sure what exactly what to do with that. Welcome to transition! I like villain mindset, anyway, but it was hard – in pt 14 snarkymonkey mentioned that war was coming, and the gods were ticked off, but I didn’t know exactly WHAT sort of things Atemu had done to piss off the gods so much. So I went with good old fashion blasphemy. Sorry! x_o
